Subspecies in India

(1) Tarucus waterstradti dharta Bethune-Baker, [1918] – Darjeeling Separate Pierrot.

 

Taxonomic Information

The species is also known as the Waterstradt's Pierrot. The subspecies dharta has been known in the literature as the Assam Pierrot, which is a misnomer because the type locality was Darjeeling and the subspecies ranges from the Eastern Himalaya to Indo-China.

 

Conservation and Special status

This species is legally protected in India under Schedule II of the WildLife (Protection) Amendment Act, 2022.

This species has been recorded so far from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim, and West Bengal, within the Indian limits.

 

This is an uncommon species.
