Tarucus spp. - - Pierrot spp.

Eight species of Tarucus occur in India. While some of them are easy to identify to a species level from images, some have to be inspected more closely, and a few have to be collected and dissected to inspect the male genitalia to confirm species identifications. This page hosts such images where species identities have not been determined yet. However, this image gallery will help experts on the website team as well as those externally affiliated to easily compare these images with already identified reference images and museum specimens.

Tarucus nara (Kollar, 1848) - Striped Pierrot

No subspecies are listed under this species. Two junior synonyms of nara appear commonly in older literature: Tarucus extricatus Butler, 1886 (Rounded Pierrot), and Tarucus alteratus Moore, 1882 (Rusty Pierrot). Tarucus bengalensis Bethune-Baker, 1917 may prove to be yet another synonym for nara.
