Subspecies in India
Another taxon, Neptis nana de Nicéville, 1889 – Little Sailer, is usually treated as a subspecies. We are provisionally treating nana as a distinct, allopatric species based on morphological and biogeographic grounds. Under this arrangement, narayana is endemic to the western Himalaya. The male genitalia of this group have not been studied well, and a molecular phylogeny is currently unavailable.
This species is legally protected in India under Schedule II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
