Latania lontaroides – Red Latan Palm

Natural History: An exotic, attractive fan palm commonly cultivated in urban gardens. Its native range is restricted to Mascarene Islands in the Indian Ocean. The leaves are fan shaped, red with red petiole when young, later turning green with age.

 

Notes: This plant has been recorded as a new larval host plant for Suastus gremius – Oriental Palm Bob by Paresh Churi from Mumbai, Maharashtra in February, 2017.
