This species is legally protected in India under Schedule II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

This species has been referred to as "Southern Blue Oakleaf" in some recent books. This is a slight misnomer since the species is endemic to the Western Ghats, it does not occur elsewhere in southern India.
