No subspecies are listed under this species. It has in the past been treated as a subspecies of either Ypthima asterope (Klug, 1832) – Common Three-ring or Ypthima norma (Westwood, 1851). Evans (1932) and Talbot (1947) mentioned distribution only from N. Myanmar, but d'Abrera (1985) mentioned it from Manipur as well.
