Photo Gallery and Species Biology

This species has been recorded so far from Arunachal Pradesh within the Indian limits.

This is a very rare species within the Indian limits. It was previously known from Myeik (=Mergui), southern Myanmar, southeastward into Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, the Philippines, Sulawesi and other SE Asian islands (Evans 1949; Corbet et al. 1992). The only previous record from India was from the "Nicobars" (Evans 1932), but there are no Indian specimens in the Natural History Museum, London (Evans 1949; Kunte, unpublished observation). Thus, the sighting reported on this website (BOI-pqe685 to BOI-pqe689) on 2025/11/03, from the Upper Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh, represents the first confirmed record from India, which is a range extension of nearly 2,000 km.
