Calinaga aborica Tytler, 1915 - Dark Freak

Subspecies in India

This is sometimes treated as a subspecies of Calinaga buddha – Orange-breasted Freak, especially in older literature. An unpublished name, Calinaga aborica naima Vane-Wright, MS, has appeared in print in the past (d'Abrera 1985; Kinyon 2004). A revision of Calinaga is underway, more information will be made available here in due course.

The known distribution of this species has recently been extended to the East Kameng District, Arunachal Pradesh, Eastern Himalaya (Sondhi et al. 2016). The traditionally known range was from the Mishmi Hills to N. Myanmar.
 
  This species is legally protected in India under Schedule II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
