Pieris melete Ménétriés, 1857 - Asian Green-veined White

Subspecies in India

(1) Pieris melete ajaka Moore, 1865 – Himalayan Green-veined White
(2) Pieris melete melaina Röber, 1907 – Tibetan Green-veined White
Indian subspecies that are listed here under Pieris melete were previously listed under Pieris napi Linnaeus, 1758, the European Green-veined White (e.g., Evans 1932, Talbot 1939, Wynter-Blyth 1957, Corbet et al. 1992). Pieris napi, as currently recognized in all its subspecific variations, ranges extensively in Europe, W. and N. Asia but does not occur in India and the rest of the Oriental Region. Here, it is replaced by Pieris melete (see Lamas 2008 for an exhaustive list of valid names and synonyms under Pieris melete and Pieris napi).
