Subspecies in India

Several subspecies have been reported for this species but their taxonomic validity is uncertain. They are most likely individual variations and perhaps polymorphisms of a cohesive taxon.

  This species is legally protected in India under Schedule II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
