The subspecies ignara is legally protected in India under Schedule II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

The known distribution of this species has recently been extended to the East Kameng District, Arunachal Pradesh, Eastern Himalaya (Sondhi et al. 2016). The traditionally known range was from the Mishmi Hills to N. Myanmar.
The subspecies ignara is legally protected in India under Schedule II of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
