Taxonomic Information

This was formerly treated as a subspecies (P. memnon agenor), but is now raised to species level (Joshi and Kunte 2022; Condamine et al. 2023). Images of Papilio agenor are still available on this website under the species page of Papilio memnon but they will eventually move to this page as the website is updated.

Conservation and Special status

The peninsular Indian subspecies, Papilio agenor polymnestor – Peninsular Great Mormon (formerly as Papilio polymnestor – Blue Mormon), is a State Butterfly of Maharashtra.
