Laringa horsfieldii Boisduval, 1833 – Banded Dandy

This species occurs in S. Myanmar, Indo-China, SE Asia and the Andaman Islands. The subspecies is endemic to the islands in South Andaman.

Status, Habitat and Habits:

The butterfly is patchily distributed and locally common, and has recently been recorded from Mount Harriet and Chidiya Tapu. It occurs in open areas, along paths and roads near evergreen forests. It had been collected well in the late 1800s and early 1900s, but there are few recent records.
